This is still happening to people every day, and the core team can't agree on the best way to allow users to get back in after inadvertantly setting the LoginTabId setting, but not putting a User Account SignIn module on that tab. After doing this some people usually realize that the "front door" to their website has had the handle removed right away because the login link stops working.

If you are looking for a way to have conditional content shown in your skin without having to use a module, you can do it with some inline code.

If you are using DotNetNuke and things like adding new pages appear to show up only after navigating to other pages or just acts randomly while doing administration then you may be running in a Web Garden.

This is a copy from a post I did over a year ago in the core team forum. I was just reminded of it, and thought it deserved a little more visibility. This is a theoretical look at the container architecture in DotNetNuke.

Here is another tip for speeding up your DotNetNuke portal. Have you ever wondered why images seem to always need to be downloaded for every page you hit while logged in on a DotNetNuke Site?

For those that are trying to figure out what the PortalAlias is all about. Here's a little 101, and to add to the fun I have also come up with a way to "hide" it from most people. So for those of you that are tired of trying to figure out why your portal is redirecting to localhost, or worse getting caught in an endless redirection loop, read on.

I have heard this discussed a lot in the forums and have mentioned a quick way that this may be obtained to a few people, but now I'm having to do it for real.

If you have mistakenly set your login page to a page that does not have a login control on it then you might be wondering how you are ever going to get logged in again to fix it.
Click on the link below for an alternate login page that you can upload to your site.
Be sure to read the included readme file.
LoginForDotNetNuke.zip (1.74 KB)
**Update: The above download only works for versions 3.1/4/1 and below. I'm still trying to get one to work for 3.3/4.3 since things were changed in the way that the ClientAPI works with UserControls.
Also, if you can get access to your DB then you can run a query to fix this problem.
Update Portals Set LoginTabId=null Where PortalId=xx
xx is the id of the portal (probably 0).
***Update: I have created a new solution that you can use in the following blog:

Just found an issue with my Catalook store where downloaded zip files were getting corrupted with winzip saying "this is not a valid archive". I downloaded trough FTP and the archive opened fine. Luckily it dawned on me that the HTTP Compression module might be causing the problem since it would be trying to Gzip a PKzip file.

That's right, it's out. Step on over to http://www.dotnetnuke.com/default.aspx?tabid=125 and get yourself a copy.
No major enhancements for this release, but many bugs were exterminated.
For those interested in a summary of the changes, here is the ouput from Gemini:
