I was writing a windows service in VB.Net today and found that the template included with the VS2K5 Beta 2 release is pretty much empty.

For those of you that are following the DotNetNuke community. You can find blogs from the core team members and the new projects leads. I'll probably copy them here also.

Just found an issue with my Catalook store where downloaded zip files were getting corrupted with winzip saying "this is not a valid archive". I downloaded trough FTP and the archive opened fine. Luckily it dawned on me that the HTTP Compression module might be causing the problem since it would be trying to Gzip a PKzip file.

It's been a while since I have been able to attend a technical conference so I'm really glad I'll get to attend the PDC this year in LA.

That's right, it's out. Step on over to http://www.dotnetnuke.com/default.aspx?tabid=125 and get yourself a copy. No major enhancements for this release, but many bugs were exterminated. For those interested in a summary of the changes, here is the ouput from Gemini:

A Dell laptop that is.  Another thing that was about time.  I had been using my last laptop for about 4 years.  It was a Dell Latitude C800 which I upgraded till it couldn't be upgraded no more. RAM is maxed out (512M). Has 2 Hard Drives (40G & 80G).  A 1G Pentium processor.  I guess that isn't too bad, but man it was slow.

I liked my last one so much that this time I got a new Dell D810.  1.7G M70 processor, 1.5G RAM, 60G 7200 RPM Hard Drive, and a nice 15" wide screen, & a DVD RW drive.

The real kicker is that my last one cost over $3,000 (without the upgrades), and this one came in right at $2,000 including tax. Sweet!  I love technology.

I wiped the hard drive as soon as it got here and installed Windows XP Pro instead of the home version.  Yes, I know I could have got the laptop with that OS and had everything configured all nice, but hey it saved me $69 to do it myself.  I have to admit, things are much better now days as far as drivers go.  I was able to load my resource CD and re-install all the drivers & utilities without a glitch in less than a half hour.  Now if Visual Studio would only load that fast!

Well, it's about time I finally started blogging.  The reason I waited this long was because I wanted to find just the right blog software (right, uh huh).  I can say with pretty much certainty that this is it.  I have been following dasBlog for a while now, ever since I saw that Nik was using it. And now that 1.8 is out and Nik is talking about making a DNN Module out of it, it's really a no brainer.

I can't believe how easy it was to install, and the themes with user switching ability really rocks.  After logging in I got even more surprises and I'm truely impressed with the abundance of features and the user interface.

Anyway, now I can start recording some posts about the inner workings of DotNetNuke, and posting some other cool stuff I find in my travels on the .Net (yes, I finally figured out that this Blog stuff can be useful).

Later...
